The pattern of this dishcloth evokes summer nights when fireflies fill the backyard and housework is done lazily. Its slip stitch pattern is easy to complete, with satisfying results. Only about half the stitches are purled!
Directions Cast on 37 stitches. Stitch Pattern
Row 1, 3, 5, 9, 11: Knit all sts.
Row 2, 4, 6: K1(edge), P5, *slip 5 purlwise (yarn at back), P5*; repeat from * to * to last st, K1 (edge).
Row 7: K1(edge), *K7, K1 over the slipped sts (take the right-hand needle under the 3 slipped threads, then pick up the next st on the left-hand needle and knit this st and the slipped threads together), K2*, repeat from * to * to last 6 sts, K5, then K1 (edge).
Row 8, 10, 12: K1(edge), slip 5 purlwise (yarn at back), *P5, slip 5 purlwise (yarn at back)*, repeat from * to * to last st, K1 (edge).
Row 13: K1 (edge), *K2, K1 over the slipped sts (as before), K7*; repeat from * to * to last 6 sts, K2, K1 over the slipped sts (as before), K2, then K1 (edge).
Complete Rows 1-13 once, then rows 2-13, 3 times.
Complete Rows 2-7 once.
Purl 1 row.
Bind off all stitches purlwise.
Finishing
Weave in ends, wash and block to finished measurements (this will take a bit of stretching).
