Your Home Inventory

Everyone is always worried about home security.

There are so many home security options that such as:
- Someone checking on the house when we are out of town.
- A security system (placed professionally or D.I.Y.)
- Keep important documents in a small, waterproof, fireproof safe.
- Having dogs
- Having backup documents stored it in an offsite location and back it up once a year.

All of those options are great but what happens if the worse happens. You'll end up dealing with insurance, who do not seem to want to work with you.

One way to make your time dealing with the insurance company easier is to make a home inventory. If anything does happen (fire, burglary, flood), your insurance company will ask you to make one anyways. It is a lot easier to make it right now, when you can see everything you own and document the type and condition that it is in.

In order to do so you have made a large spread sheet to inventory. This takes a while and  I find is best if you go category by category or room by room. Label each sheet as a different categories (Overall, General, Fine Items, Appliances, Electronics, Media, Camping Equipment, Clothes, Furniture, Hobbies, Tools, Kitchen, Linens, Guns, Office, Christmas).  It includes information about each item, such as:
    - Amount of Items (i.e. if it is a set or if you have multiples)
    - Estimated Cost / Purchase Price
    - Value Policy Limit (for things like guns and fine jewelry)
    - Year Purchased
    - Scanned Receipt Name (All backed up on Google+)
    - Photo Name (All backed up on Google +)
    - Website item can be found at
    - Item #
    - Manufacturer
    - Serial Number / Make and Model
    - Notes (i.e. condition)

This is also a good way to see if you have duplicates or help out if people are borrowing your things (My brother called me right after I made this list and asked what camping equipment I had and I just read off the list).

I know that there are many apps and other websites that talk about it.
